ADD/ADHD Assessments

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are psychological conditions that can be diagnosed in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. Both ADD and ADHD are characterized by inattention that creates impairment for an individual in at least two settings and clear evidence that the inattention disrupts developmentally appropriate social, academic, or occupational functioning. In addition ADHD is characterized by persistent hyperactivity or impulsivity that is more frequent and severe than is typically observed in other individuals of similar age.

Because symptoms of ADD and ADHD can mirror those of mood disorders or trauma, a comprehensive assessment that includes educational tests, parent, teacher, and student rating scales, and interviews is used to provide an accurate differential diagnosis. Our ADD/ ADHD evaluations provide clients with a working diagnosis, behavioral recommendations, parent guidance, and recommended accommodations for home, school or work. We also advise about whether or not medication should be evaluated as a course of treatment.

Untreated ADD and ADHD can grossly impact academic performance, family and peer relationships, occupational success and overall self-esteem. For more information please visit the National Institutes of Health at http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/adhd.cfm.
